Cookie Policy

Overview

This Cookie Policy explains how AI Video Detector uses cookies, local storage, and similar technologies when you visit aivideodetector.dev, run an AI video scan, or log in with your Google account. It should be read together with our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.

We keep the number of cookies to a minimum. The site does not use advertising, remarketing, or social-media tracking cookies. Where possible we prefer cookieless analytics so that your browsing activity is not stored in a persistent cookie.

What Are Cookies

A cookie is a small text file placed on your device by a website. Cookies help the site remember your actions and preferences over a period of time so you do not have to re-enter them each time you visit.

Local storage and session storage are browser features that work in a similar way. This policy covers all of these technologies when they are set by AI Video Detector.

Consent Choices

When you first visit the site, a cookie consent banner lets you choose between "Accept all" and "Essential only" cookies. Your choice is stored in your browser's localStorage under the key avd_cookie_consent and does not expire automatically.

Choosing "Essential only" disables non-essential analytics scripts such as Google Analytics 4, Microsoft Clarity, and Ahrefs. Essential cookies for login, security, and session management remain active regardless of your choice because the Service cannot function without them.

You can change your preference at any time by clearing your browser's localStorage for this site. The consent banner will reappear on your next visit, letting you re-evaluate your choice. You can also use the "Cookie Settings" link in the footer of every page.

Cookies We Use

The following table describes each cookie or storage item the site currently sets, its purpose, and how long it persists.

Essential: Google OAuth session token — set after you sign in with Google to maintain your login state across pages and scan requests. Type: first-party, HttpOnly. Duration: session or until you sign out.

Essential: avd_cookie_consent — stores your cookie consent preference ("all" or "essential"). Type: first-party, localStorage. Duration: persistent until you clear it.

Essential: CSRF / security tokens — short-lived tokens that protect forms and API endpoints from cross-site request forgery. Type: first-party, cookie or header. Duration: session.

Essential: Scan result identifiers — temporary references that let the Results page load your most recent scan without requiring login for the first free scan. Type: first-party, localStorage. Duration: 24 hours or until overwritten.

Analytics (non-essential): Google Analytics 4 — measures page views, scan starts, scan completions, errors, and upgrade clicks. Only loaded if you accept all cookies. Type: first-party cookie set by GA4. Duration: up to 2 years.

Analytics (non-essential): Microsoft Clarity — records anonymised session heatmaps to help us identify usability problems. Only loaded if you accept all cookies. Type: first-party. Duration: up to 1 year.

Analytics (non-essential): Ahrefs Web Analytics — tracks page views for SEO monitoring. Only loaded if you accept all cookies. Type: first-party. Duration: session.

Cookieless Analytics

We also use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which does not use cookies or local storage. Cloudflare Web Analytics collects aggregated page-view counts and performance metrics through a lightweight script that runs on every page. No personal data is stored in your browser by this tool.

This cookieless approach means we can understand overall traffic trends and Core Web Vitals scores without tracking individual visitors across sessions.

Third-Party Cookies

AI Video Detector does not knowingly set third-party advertising or tracking cookies. However, some third-party services used during specific workflows may set their own cookies under their own policies.

PayPal: When you subscribe to a paid plan or complete a payment, PayPal may place cookies for fraud detection, session management, and payment processing. These cookies are governed by the PayPal Cookie Policy and are outside our direct control.

Google: The Google OAuth sign-in flow may set Google-domain cookies for account authentication. These are governed by Google's Privacy Policy.

We do not embed third-party widgets, social sharing buttons, or advertising iframes that would introduce additional tracking cookies.

Managing Cookies in Your Browser

You can block or delete cookies at any time through your browser settings. Below are links to cookie management instructions for common browsers: Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge, and Brave all provide per-site cookie controls in their privacy or security settings.

If you block essential cookies, login, account pages, saved scan results, and checkout may stop working correctly. The first free scan will continue to work without cookies.

You can also clear the avd_cookie_consent key from localStorage to reset your consent preference and see the consent banner again on your next visit.

Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control

The site respects the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal. When a GPC signal is detected, non-essential analytics scripts are not loaded regardless of a prior consent choice, aligning the behaviour with the "Essential only" setting.

We currently do not respond to the legacy Do Not Track (DNT) HTTP header because there is no industry standard for how sites should handle it. GPC is the recommended alternative.

Changes to This Policy

If we add new categories of cookies—for example advertising, remarketing, or additional analytics providers—we will update this policy, revise the consent banner to describe the new cookies, and where required by law seek your consent before loading them.

The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent change. Continued use of the site after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
